The Stills Day 3, Oklahoma City
It has been decided by all that Oklahoma City is made by the people, not the place. Believe me, there’s no way it’s the place. The show at the Diamond Ballroom was fine, went really well actually, but the defining moments were definitely after the show.
It turns out that the Kings of Leon have lots of family in OKC (as the locals call it…). 10% of the crowd was KoL family. Literally. They had 122 family members on the guest list. And they were cool family members too. After the show, Uncle Chris backed up his brand new pickup beside all the tour buses. To say the man was prepared is an understatement. Flipped down the tailgate, had beer for all, a 6’ table, a couple propane tanks and 3 pressure cookers pre-filled with authentic Louisiana Cajun Chicken Gumbo. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely incredible.
As we ate the gumbo, we hung out with all the family folk and met some pretty interesting people, and every single one of them was a great host, very welcoming. There was one man in particular who used to play in a band that backed up Levon Helm, Carl Perkins, etc… been there, done that. He had some pretty good stories. And his daughter makes a killer carrot cake. All in all, it was a really great night, total family bbq style vibe.
It was a great way to end the night in OKC, and we’re actually looking forward to going back…
